Constructing The Statue Of Liberty In Paris, France, 1880s

Lady Liberty is almost ready to set sail from Paris to her new home in New York. The picture was taken in the 1880s when the neoclassical copper sculpture was being made as a gift by the people of France to the people of the United States. It was  was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
