Robben Island – If you are intrigued by the history of South Africa, Robben Island is probably already on your list of places to visit. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has had a very turbulent history. It housed a prison where most of the anti-apartheid activists were imprisoned, including Nelson Mandela. You can enter the prison, and visit the maximum security ward. The guides at Robben Island are an important part of its history, as most of them were imprisoned here themselves.
