Deadvlei, Namibia – Known among tourists as ‘Dead Marsh,’ this is a white clay pan situated right next to the salt pan called Sussusvlei (which is a more famous tourist location). However, many consider Deadvlei to be far more attractive. The place is surrounded by the world’s highest sand dunes, making Deadvlei look exactly the same for centuries. In fact, the trees seen in the photo above died more than 600 years ago, but can’t decompose because there is not enough water.
